One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council

Mission | The purpose of the Riverside School Council is to support and enhance the learning and performance of all students enrolled at Riverside School. The parents of Riverside School will support the mandates of the Science Alternative Program and the ACCESS III Program encouraging our student's inquiring minds, creativity, exploration, and field studies by being active partners in our children’s learning.

Vision | We envision that all our learners will be successful in this unique learning environment as a result of our active participation in their learning and personal growth, both in the school and as responsible citizens of the world around us.

Membership | Open to all parents, legal guardians or extended family members of a student at Riverside School, all staff of Riverside School and any interested community members.

Meetings are held on Thursdays each month at 7:00 PM in the Learning Commons.
