The CBE's Approach to Community Engagement
Dialogue is the Calgary Board of Education’s approach to community engagement. It is a mutually respectful exchange of ideas that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity within the CBE community. It represents our ongoing commitment to involve people in decisions that affect them.
We know we make better decisions when we listen and work together to solve problems and find solutions. When we do, our students are better equipped to become successful citizens who contribute their ideas, passion and energy to society.
There can be no dialogue without you. Find out more about Dialogue as well as current and past system engagement initiatives on the CBE’s website.
Update on our Visual Identity
Signage
All references to the old school name on the website and inside the building have been removed and replaced with Riverside School.
Guidance from Elders
We continue to be grateful to the Elder who joined our community to provide support, guidance, and teachings to staff and students. Every student has met with the Elder at least once to learn about the land on which our building resides. In June, the school administration met with Elder Leonard Bastien. When asked about his thoughts on visual identity, he shared that all colors of the rainbow after a thunderstorm were equally beautiful, and each sacred. He also suggested considering natural elements such as sun, moon, stars, thunder, lightning, and water in design elements.
- From April 2022 to November 2023, students worked through a design process to gather ideas about what Riverside means to them.
- The logo chosen was created by an Indigenous student from Central Memorial High School.
- School clothing with the new logo will be available for purchase for September 2023.
- The school logo is part of the website banner updated in November 2022.
