Welcome back to all Riverside School community members!

There has been amazing energy in our school over these first few days with our students back in their classrooms, routines being established, relationships renewed and new ones established.  There is so much that makes our school community amazing, but it all boils down to the people who are part of it: students, families, staff, and all caregivers.

Thank you to our School Council and Parent Society for hosting a Welcome Back tea and coffee event for families last Thursday.  While the weather wasn’t exactly what you’d hope for at an event like this, it was still a great opportunity to connect.  Thank you to Mr. Price, Mr. Koch, Ms. Koshynsky, and all volunteers who planned, organized, and ran the inaugural Welcome Back BBQ event for students last Friday.  It was a tremendous day!

McCarthy Uniforms update

As mentioned in an email I sent last week, McCarthy Uniforms has reopened their purchasing window for uniforms.  While it is possible to purchase uniforms, please expect six weeks or more before orders can be fulfilled.  In the interim, students whose families were not able to purchase uniforms in advance of the school year can wear plain navy blue tops.  Thank you to everyone for their flexibility and understanding as we ‘get back in the groove’ with uniforms and navigate this whole process.  A reminder that all Fridays are “Free Dress Fridays”, except for days when students will be off-campus on field study.

School Conferences (Meet The Teacher)

We are looking forward to hosting our parent and guardian community for School Conferences on September 21 and 22. I know that Ms. Dixon is also very excited to host a Book Fair in the Learning Commons, which will be open during conferences as well.

Ms. Copot will be available for interviews with Kindergarten families throughout the day on September 21st and on the 22nd from 8:00-noon. She will share more specific details with families in her Friday message. Parents and guardians will be able to book conferences through their MyCBE/PowerSchool account effective Friday, September 8 and 5:00PM.

Grades 1-3 parents will be able to book conferences through their MyCBE/PowerSchool account effective Friday, September 8 at 5:00PM.

Grades 4-9 teachers will host an “Open House” in their classrooms on September 21 from 5:00-7:00. They will also be directly arranging meetings with families as necessary on September 21 from 4:00-5:00 and on September 22 from 8:00-noon. If you have concerns you wish to raise with the teachers, please reach out to them directly via email as bookings will not be available through MyCBE/PowerSchool.

School Council and Parent Society update

Our School Council and Parent Society will host their first meetings of the school year on Thursday, September 21, beginning after School Conferences have concluded at 7:00.  All Riverside parents and guardians are welcome to join these meetings.  These groups work in partnership with the school to improve outcomes at Riverside on behalf of students.  We enjoy a productive and friendly partnership with our parent community.

During the “Administrator’s Update” portion of the meeting, I will share staffing news along with initial updates regarding School Development Planning for the 2023-24 school year.  Our Physical Education team, led by Mr. Price, will be providing an update about teaching and learning in their classrooms as well.

Thank you for your partnership.
