The halls here at Riverside School are extra-full lately, with a lot of additional energy in the building. We are happy to welcome two student teachers from the University of Alberta to our school. Ms. Serge is working with Ms. Oppenheim, and Ms. Griffith-Cochrane is working with Mr. Higgins. We have also welcomed 10 first-year student teachers from the University of Calgary to Riverside. They are working in all classrooms around the school and participating in field studies as they have their first field experience. While they will not directly teach students, they will make observations, work in small groups, and reflect upon their experiences as they embark on their educational careers.
Uniforms update
I want to take a moment to thank our entire school community – students, families, and staff – for their hard work and support in ensuring a smooth transition back into wearing uniforms as part of the code of conduct expectations at Riverside School this year.
The current purchasing window from McCarthy Uniforms will close on October 27. I am thankful to both McCarthy Uniforms and the CBE Purchasing team for supporting us in ensuring this ‘window’ was open over these last few months. The next purchasing window will open from December 15-January 26. I know that there was a great deal of flexibility offered over the last while, but I urge families to expect the dates for this window to be very firm.
I have been discussing the possibility of a uniform exchange or used uniform item sale with School Council over the last few weeks and will be happy to share information about these possibilities in the near future.
Finally, with the upcoming end of the current purchasing window, Ms. Yu and I will be sharing news about ongoing uniform expectations with students in their classrooms in the coming weeks. I know that there are likely many questions about this process, from students, families and staff, and we are ready to hear them, and make small adjustments to procedures based on feedback, while also honouring community and school expectations in this area. I will share this information with you in a separate email by the end of October.
Upcoming casino fundraiser
Attention, folks! It's that time once more, and our most significant fundraising event of the year is just around the corner - our Casino Fundraiser. When we volunteer our time for this event, we not only give back to our community but also receive a share of the proceeds. Typically, each Casino fundraiser brings in approximately $80,000, which goes directly to Riverside for the betterment of our school.
Mark your calendars for this year's Casino extravaganza, taking place on January 19th and 20th at The Ace Casino near the airport (40 Aero Cres NE). To get involved as a volunteer, all you need to do is fill out the Google Form provided at this link: https://forms.gle/fNyfRhnxUoZu.... Please note that we must finalize our volunteer roster no later than November 1st, 2024.
Let's not forget that our volunteers play a pivotal role in making this fundraising opportunity a success for our school. So, don't hesitate to sign up and be part of something special. Together, we can make a significant difference in our educational community.

Dear Parents / Guardians,

A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.
Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.
The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.
Wishing you all a tremendous week,
Steve Radder, Principal
Riverside School
