My heart was full today as we observed Remembrance Day here at Riverside via our assemblies this morning. I also appreciated the work of staff and students to also recognize Indigenous Veterans’ Day, which falls on November 8. I am always very proud to be the Principal of Riverside School and count it as a blessing in my life; today, this was particularly true as I saw the care and attention paid by all participants, whether in the audience or actively ‘on stage’ for this important day. Thank you to everyone from our community who attended.
Fall break has begun for our students. They do not have classes from November 9 through November 14. Classes will resume on Wednesday, November 15.
A Quick Reminder …
A quick reminder, families, to kindly check your MyCBE account while your children are on Fall Break as there are currently $27,000 in unpaid fees on record at our school, representing over 60% of total fees charged this year.
If your family needs support or assistance in making payments, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our main office at riverside@cbe.ab.ca. Thank you for your attention to this.
Morning Routines at Riverside
With the weather turning, we have seen a significant uptick in the number of students checking in late at the office each day. Of course, we are happy to see our students whenever they arrive, but we have been filling 4 pages in our attendance binder most mornings, and the missed learning time really adds up! We know that it can take a little bit longer to bundle up in mornings (or to get out of bed, at times) - so we thank you all – students, parents and guardians – for adjusting so that fewer students are late each day.
Also, a quick reminder that the area in front of the school on 6A Street is a bus zone, and parents, guardians, and caregivers should not be using the bus zones for drop off in the morning or pick up in the afternoon. Thank you very much.
UPDATE! Grade 7 Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank
A hearty bravo and well done to Riverside students and their families for their participation in our food drive for the Calgary Food Bank. Students brought in a total of 10 large boxes of food and a cash amount of $162 to donate to the cause. Thank you all for your support. Thank you also to our Grade 7 students and teachers for organizing the food drive.
I wish all Riverside students and families a restful and enjoyable Fall Break. We will see you back in school on Wednesday, November 15. Have fun!
Steve Radder, Principal
