We were talking as a staff about how bizarre it is to be turning the calendar over to November already – but here we are! A sure sign of the advancing calendar is Learning Conferences coming up near the end of the month. We’ll be sharing instructions for how to sign up for meetings with your child’s teacher(s) in the coming weeks.  

 

Morning Routines at Riverside 

 

With the weather turning, we have seen a significant uptick in the number of students checking in late at the office each day. Of course, we are happy to see our students whenever they arrive, but we have been filling 4 pages in our attendance binder most mornings, and the missed learning time really adds up! We know that it can take a little bit longer to bundle up in mornings (or to get out of bed, at times) - so we thank you all – students, parents and guardians – for adjusting so that fewer students are late each day. 

 

Also, a quick reminder that the area in front of the school on 6A Street is a bus zone, and parents, guardians, and caregivers should not be using the bus zones for drop off in the morning or pick up in the afternoon. Thank you very much. 

 

Grade 7 Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank 

 

The grade 7 Leadership Team is organizing a food drive for the Calgary Food Bank. The school will start accepting non-perishable items starting on Monday, October 30^th up to and including Wednesday, November 8^th. The food bank appreciates donations such as: canned fruits, vegetables, proteins and soups. They also need pasta, rice, cereals, pasta sauces (plastic jars preferred), peanut butter, baby food/formula and even unopened dog food! Cash donations are also accepted. If you wish to donate, your child can bring donations to their classrooms starting on Monday. 

 

STEAM Lab/Makerspace update and request 

 

We are currently in the process of turning Room 206 (adjacent to the Learning Commons) into a Makerspace.  If you have any craft materials at home that you would be willing to donate, we would be very appreciative!  Examples include: 

 

·         Fabrics 

·         Glue guns and glue sticks 

·         Popsicle sticks 

·         Craft paper 

·         Packing tape, duct tape

Upcoming casino fundraiser 

 

Attention, folks! It's that time once more, and our most significant fundraising event of the year is just around the corner - our Casino Fundraiser. When we volunteer our time for this event, we not only give back to our community but also receive a share of the proceeds. Typically, each Casino fundraiser brings in approximately $80,000, which goes directly to Riverside for the betterment of our school. 
 
Mark your calendars for this year's Casino extravaganza, taking place on January 19th and 20th at The Ace Casino near the airport (40 Aero Cres NE). To get involved as a volunteer, all you need to do is fill out the Google Form provided at this link: https://forms.gle/fNyfRhnxUoZu.... Please note that we must finalize our volunteer roster no later than November 1st. 

 
Let's not forget that our volunteers play a pivotal role in making this fundraising opportunity a success for our school. So, don't hesitate to sign up and be part of something special. Together, we can make a significant difference in our educational community.
