It seems like there’s great news each week here at Riverside School!  First, I want to share that our School Council raised approximately $500 to donate to the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter during Activity Day last week.  Riverside is such a caring community and one I am proud to be a part of. 

 

In the next weekly update message, I’ll be excited to share the final list of proposed team names for students, staff, and families to provide feedback on in the new year.  Riverside students shared over 200 names in the brainstorming section of this process.  Our Student Advisory Council helped me narrow this list down to approximately 60 individual names, which they felt matched the criteria we set out at the beginning of the process.  12 separate names garnered enough support to be considered for the final short list.  Staff are in the process of narrowing down this list this week. 

 

Finally, a couple of staffing updates to share with you.  First, please join me in welcoming Ms. Laura Shaw to the staff of Riverside School.  Laura will be covering Sonia Oppenheim’s assignment for the remainder of the school year while Sonia awaits the birth of her baby in the coming weeks.  Second, please join me in thanking Ms. Idamaria Rende for her dedication and support of our students as a Lunch Supervisor.  Ms. Rende has joined the staff of Vista Heights School as an Education Assistant.  We wish her all the best in the future! 

 

January School Council and Parent Society meeting 

 

During next month’s School Council meeting, I will be presenting our work with some foundational documents for Riverside School: our School Improvement Results Report and School Development Plan.  A copy of this document is available by clicking hereclicking here.  I really encourage as many families as possible to join for this discussion as this document reflects the commitments we are making as a staff to our students and describes the key areas we wish to focus on for this school year.  As our partners in education, we will value your thoughts, ideas, and questions. 

 

Upcoming McCarthy Uniform purchasing window AND 25% off sale 

 

McCarthy Uniforms reached out to let me know that they will be holding an ‘up to 25% off sale’ and wanted to know if I wanted them to open our purchasing window earlier than previously published.  I said “yes!” very quickly.  So, the purchasing window for uniform items will open again effective November 27 and will remain open until January 26.  Please see below for specific information about this: 

 

November 27-December 20 – up to 25% off uniform items from McCarthy Uniforms 

December 21-January 26 – purchasing window remains open but all items are regularly priced
