Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.​ ​​​​

Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary​

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible. 

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Our Commitment to Traffic Safety at Riverside School

School’s commitment: 

  • Educate students about the importance of traffic safety by implementing actions throughout the school year which will inform and reinforce traffic safety around the school.
  • Provide parents with information about where to park and where to pick up their children

Parents’ commitment:

  • Support school actions by following traffic rules when picking and dropping off children.
  • Discuss and reinforce with my child the importance of following traffic safety at all times.
  • Model appropriate traffic safety when with my children.

Students’ commitment:

  • Use the sidewalk at all times and use traffic safety rules when travelling to and from school.
  • Encourage my parents to follow the traffic safety rules at all times.

Important Information for Parents Regarding Parking 

  • Please park in areas where you can legally park.
  • When parents are volunteering we ask they park at Riverside Bungalow. We are allowed to use the Riverside Bungalow for this purpose even though the signs indicate otherwise.
  • Do not use the school parking lots for the drop off/pick up of students
  • Most importantly, be observant of children when you are driving in a school area and model good driving practices.
  • Obey all traffic signals and speed limits
  • Obey school bus flashers and do not park or drop off children in the school bus zones or across the street from the school to jay walk.
  • We appreciate our parents who promote and model safe pedestrian crossing at the crosswalks. 
  • Students must not walk students between parked buses!
