What a great first day of school we had yesterday! Our school always feels more complete with the students present, and we are definitely right back in the swing of things. It has been wonderful catching up with students and families about their summer news and to meet new Riverside families.
Our first School Council and Parent Society meeting for this year will take place on September 18. Please come and join this tremendous group, which we enjoy a strong partnership with. You don’t need to sign up for any ‘big jobs’ and any member of our community is welcome to attend. I speak briefly at each meeting to discuss news and student learning; my report this month will focus on summer updates and our first steps together in this new year.
I have also updated the staff contact information available on the school website so that it is current. Generally speaking, your child’s homeroom teacher is the best first point of contact for any questions or concerns. Click here for contact information.
Welcome Back BBQ and first Healthy Hunger Lunch
Our 3rd Annual Welcome Back BBQ will take place on Friday of this week, between 10:00 and noon. Kindergarten students and their families are welcome to join any time between those hours if they would like! Typically, our younger students go first, with our older students participating later in the day.
We will have gluten free, vegetarian, and halal options for students with dietary restrictions. We are all looking forward to this tremendous celebration! Thank you very much to Sunridge Costco for their kind donation in support of this event.
In addition, our first Healthy Hunger ‘fun lunch’ will take place on September 25. Future update messages will have more information on how to order.
When issues arise, part 2
Ms. Yu (Assistant Principal) and I are always happy to take meetings with families when our support is needed, but we thank you in advance for setting a time to meet with us. Having pre-arranged meeting times allows us to give your child and their needs the undivided attention they deserve, and also allows us to be prepared for our conversation, allowing us to be respectful of everyone’s time. We cannot accommodate drop-in or on-demand meetings. Please contact our main office via phone or at riverside@cbe.ab.ca to arrange a meeting time. Thank you!
Single stall restrooms
Riverside School does have a small number of single stall restrooms on the upper floor of our school. All students are welcome to use these restrooms as access is not limited. These restrooms, used by only one student at a time, are meant to support students meeting their needs if they are uncomfortable or unable to use the larger boys and girls restrooms throughout the school. We encourage students to use these restrooms as needed, however, we also thank those who can use the larger restrooms for doing so to ensure access for others who cannot.
Thank you for your continued support! Let's go, Ravens!
