Today we observed Orange Shirt Day here at the school, in memory and recognition of survivors of residential schools in Canada.  I was inspired to see so many students showing their support for the process of reconciliation by wearing their orange shirts today.

This observance was a part of our celebration of Treaty 7 Week, and this land that we all call home.  Riverside students at each grade have been engaging in land-based learning through field studies all week, focusing on the history and unique character of southern Alberta and the Calgary region.  I’m sure they are all thankful that the weather has smiled on them – as am I – and I have enjoyed hearing all of their stories after their experiences.  Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who stepped up to ensure our students could participate in these valuable learning experiences!

2024-25 Yearbook club update

Yearbook Club is looking for grade 8 and 9 students to join the lunchtime club on Thursdays. We start on Thursday Oct. 3rd in Room 204, so bring your lunch and check it out!  Students will create our school yearbook using computer design software, plus taking and editing photos.

School Conferences/”Meet The Teacher”

We are all looking forward to our first set of Learning Conferences, to be held on September 26 and 27 here at the school.  There’s many signposts in a school year, and the passing of the annual ‘Meet The Teacher’ type activity is a big one!

Division 1 (K-Grade 3) teachers will have bookable times with families both Thursday evening and Friday.  These will be 15 minutes in length.

Division 2 and 3 (Grades 4-9) teachers will host a drop-in/open house format on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00.  They will be in contact with families who they feel require a specific meeting time on a priority basis.  If you feel you need a meeting with your child’s teacher, please contact them directly to inquire.  The ‘typical’ format for School Conference (including bookable time slots at all grades) will be followed in the November and March sessions.

See you at School Conferences!
