This week, Riverside staff and students participated in our first practice lockdown and practice fire drills of the school year. Each year, CBE schools practice lockdowns twice and fire drills six times. I am thankful for the care and attention students paid to both of these exercises and their understanding of the importance of this serious work.
With the finalization of our boys and girls basketball rosters, our fall sports are fully underway. Ravens cross country and soccer teams have already been doing us proud, and their friends in basketball will be doing so soon! Congratulations to all those students who are on our teams, and to all those who stepped up to try. Regardless of outcome, I am proud of each of you.
Our financial year is coming to a close – and a new one beginning – and I received a report stating that there are currently $23,500 of unpaid fees on student accounts linked to Riverside students. You would all have my gratitude if you reviewed your myCBE/PowerSchool account if you had a moment and resolve any outstanding fees.

Terry Fox Run information
Riverside School will be participating in The Terry Fox School Run to support cancer research on Thursday, September 19th. We are proud to continue the legacy of one of our country’s greatest heroes. The goal is to have as many students and staff as possible RUN the entire event without stopping! Parents are also welcome to attend.
Students will run on the Riverside Field from:
Elementary (K-6): 12:45-1:05
Junior High (7-9): 1:40-2:10
We hope you will join us and support this wonderful cause by donating to our Terry Fox School Run fundraising page at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/RiversideSchool Students are also encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry” to their homeroom teacher sometime between September 16th and September 20th If they are able. Thank you! The future of cancer research has never looked brighter!
2024-25 Yearbook club update
Yearbook Club is looking for grade 8 and 9 students to join the lunchtime club on Thursdays. We start on Thursday Oct. 3rd in Room 204, so bring your lunch and check it out! Students will create our school yearbook using computer design software, plus taking and editing photos.
School Conferences/”Meet The Teacher”
We are all looking forward to our first set of Learning Conferences, to be held on September 26 and 27 here at the school. There’s many signposts in a school year, and the passing of the annual ‘Meet The Teacher’ type activity is a big one!
Division 1 (K-Grade 3) teachers will have bookable times with families both Thursday evening and Friday. These will be 15 minutes in length.
Division 2 and 3 (Grades 4-9) teachers will host a drop-in/open house format on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00. They will be in contact with families who they feel require a specific meeting time on a priority basis. If you feel you need a meeting with your child’s teacher, please contact them directly to inquire. The ‘typical’ format for School Conference (including bookable time slots at all grades) will be followed in the November and March sessions.
