With a new school year beginning, I wanted to share another reminder that when students ride bikes to school, they should lock their bike up in our cage in the parking lot across the bridge. It is vital that students have a strong lock, such as a u-lock or a thick chain. No matter how they are marketed, any bike lock that is a cord is insufficient to secure a lock. They are cut very quickly, leading to theft. Local businesses have offered discounts to Riverside students when purchasing bike locks in the past. If you are interested, please inquire directly with them.
Athletics for the new school year are underway, with our soccer and basketball teams beginning tryouts and practices, and our cross country teams having their first competition on Thursday. Our student athletes always represent our school very well and we are proud to cheer them on! Lets go Ravens!
School Council Meeting – September 18; and Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch
The first School Council meeting of the school year will take place on September 18 at 7:00PM, in our Learning Commons. During each meeting, I present a report on timely matters for our school and take questions from the group. We enjoy a productive relationship with our school community, and School Council is one way that we continue to strengthen this partnership. All Riverside families are welcome to attend.
Fun lunch planning is underway! We’re hoping to organize one for September and two for every month after. Stay tuned for dates! We are looking for a few more volunteers for our casino on October 28, and 29th. This is our biggest fundraiser and happens every 18-24 months. Check the link and sign up if you can help out!

Mark your calendars! Next bottle drive will take place Thursday October 16th. We will have tons of prizes and two lucky names will be drawn to win a class party! Party theme hint: the flavours are limitless but it’s not ice-cream…. Each bag of bottles/cans will equal 1-3 tickets in the draw.
Terry Fox Run – September 18
Our school is excited to take part in the 45th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Terry started a marathon against cancer. Together, we can help finish it. The run will take place on Thursday, September 18th on the Riverside Field. Elementary (K-6) will run from 12:45-1:05 and Junior High will run from 1:40-2:10. Parents are also welcome to attend.
