Our Grade 6 and 9 students are gearing up to write the first of their Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). Each year, Albertan students in Grades 6 and 9 write PATs in English, Social Studies, Math, and Science. In mid-May, they will complete a written English exam, focused on responding to different writing prompts. Students have been practicing this work and getting accustomed to the writing platform, while staff are working behind the scenes to ensure everything is ready to go. I am very proud to be the Principal here each day, but the way this community comes together in support of our friends in Grade 6 and 9 is a particular source of pride at this time of year.
In last week’s update message, I noted that we have opened a survey in SchoolEngage for families to indicate whether their children will be continuing at Riverside next year or not. This is invaluable information for you to provide to the school as I am in the midst of budgetary work for next year, and student enrolment does impact this. Thank you very much for sharing this information with us!
Spring uniform purchasing window
McCarthy Uniforms recently shared a reminder that the uniform purchasing window for the spring will open on April 15th and will end on May 31st. This will be the final opportunity to purchase uniform items for the 25-26 school year.
Parking restrictions on 6 Street
The City of Calgary sent a notification to the school this morning indicating that, due to the ongoing utility construction work near our school, they will be restricting parking on 6 Street between 1 Avenue and Marsh Road. Thus, they will not permit parking in that area for about 8 weeks, effective April 20.
School Council and Parent Society updates
Our May School Council and Parent Society meeting will take place at 7:00PM on May 21 in our Learning Commons. This will also be the final meetings for the current school year for each of these groups. Elections for executive positions will take place at this meeting. Please ‘stay tuned’ for further information about this.
Attending School Council and Parent Society meetings is a great way to get involved in our school community, have a say in our programming, and partner with staff to make our school even greater than it already is! Joining these meetings does not obligate you to volunteer or take on additional work. If you’ve never joined us, please feel very welcome to join.
Thank you for your continued support,
Steve Radder, Principal
Riverside School
