Athletics - See updates on our Athletics Page

All Riverside students participated in our spring Activity Day today!  Kindergarten – Grade 5 students had their activities in the morning, with Grades 6-9 having theirs this afternoon.  A great deal of work goes into days like this – they are truly a huge investment in our school community, and in building the connections that are foundational to excellent learning outcomes.  Thank you very much to our School Council and Parent Society for their financial support of the day, to those families who volunteered to provide support, and to all staff involved in planning and executing a big day.

Our athletics page is updated frequently with information regarding practice and tryout dates.  The next sport to get underway will be badminton!  Tryouts for Grades 6-9 students will begin immediately after spring break, following this schedule:

Grade 6: Monday, March 30 – lunch time

Grade 7: Tuesday, March 31 – lunch time

Grade 8: Tuesday, March 31 – 3:00PM

Grade 9: Monday, March 30 – 3:00PM

School Council and Parent Society updates

Our March School Council and Parent Society meeting will take place at 7:00PM on Thursday, March 19 in our Learning Commons.

This meeting will be of particular note for 2 reasons: I will be discussing our School Development Plan, school results, and the budgetary process; also, our elected School Board Trustee, Susan Vukadinovic will be in attendance.

Susan has shared a message with me, to pass on to you all, in advance of her visit:  “This is a great opportunity for parents and guardians to share with their local school board trustee about what is important to them. All parents and guardians are welcome, even if they have never been to a school council meeting before.

In terms of what to expect, I typically talk for just a couple of minutes to introduce myself and to share what a trustee does. And then I open it up to the room. No matter how many or how few people are in the room, there’s always a great conversation that follows. Sometimes parents/guardians ask me questions. Sometimes parents/guardians share suggestions or feedback with me for the CBE.  It’s really helpful for me to hear directly from parents and guardians because then when I am back in the board room I can do a better job of advocating for Riverside School.”

Attending School Council and Parent Society meetings is a great way to get involved in our school community, have a say in our programming, and partner with staff to make our school even greater than it already is!  Joining these meetings does not obligate you to volunteer or take on additional work.  If you’ve never joined us, please feel very welcome to join.
