Another amazing school year is coming to an end.  This is a time of reflection and celebration, while also recognizing that we are saying ‘farewell’ to valued members of our school community, both on our staff and in our student population.  It’s the people who are part of our community that make Riverside such an amazing place of learning.  If you are leaving Riverside School at the end of this year, we wish you the very best wherever your journey takes you next.

Our main office (and school) will close for the summer at noon on Friday of this week.  Staff will be enjoying a well-deserved break and will respond to any queries you might send over the summer months when they return in late August.  The office will reopen at 9:00 on August 26.

On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for a wonderful school year.  Our students benefit greatly from the partnership between home and school.  We also wish your families a restful, enjoyable, and safe summer!

Report cards

Parents and guardians, please note that end-of-year report cards were published today, and are available for viewing through your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. If you have questions about the information presented in the report card, please contact your child’s teacher directly via email.

Staffing updates

In addition to previously-announced staffing changes, I have the following updates to offer:

Laura Shaw, who stepped in to teach Grade 4 when Sonia Oppenheim began her leave, has decided to return home to BC for the new school year.  We are all so thankful for how admirably Laura taught 4B during her time here at Riverside.

Sonia Oppenheim has extended her maternity leave for an additional year.  Sydnee Chau, who was a student teacher in Ms. Berg’s classroom this year, has agreed to fill this position for next year.

I am pleased to announce that Sandro Lopa and Kelsy Norman have both accepted my offer to continue at Riverside next school year.  They will continue teaching Grade 1 and Grade 5, respectively.

Ivan Freudenthaler, who has been covering for homeroom 7C over the last month or so, will continue in that role for next year as well.

Finally, Jacky Tollestrop is joining Riverside School on our Grade 8 team, and will be teaching the Humanities specialist role on that team. Ms. Fulwiler will move to the Grade 8 Generalist role, while Ms. Beechey will become the Math/Science specialist.

A hearty thank you to Jack Delay, who has filled in for Kirby Koch while he’s been away these last few months.  It has been a pleasure working with Jack each day, and I am grateful for how ably he filled in at Riverside in our PE department.

Riverside School summer newsletter

We have prepared a short newsletter with items of interest prior to our return to school in August.  You can find this summer newsletter on the Riverside website, or by clicking here.  We’ve tried to anticipate questions that might come up in the weeks prior to the main office reopening.  We hope you find the newsletter helpful!  Your feedback is appreciated.

Upcoming uniform sale windows

McCarthy Uniforms will be opening their online store to order uniform pieces again during the following window: July 17 – October 31.  Please contact McCarthy Uniforms directly if you have any questions about this.  If you have concerns about the financial aspect of the uniform expectations, please contact school administration directly.

As always, I am so grateful for your continued support.  Have a wonderful summer break!
