I have a fairly large number of staffing updates to share with you, some of the happy sort, and some of the bittersweet sort.  This is a time of year for transition for staff for a variety of reasons!

First, Riverside School was allocated 2 additional full-time teachers through the Alberta Class Size Reduction Grant, which will be used to create a 4th homeroom at both the Grade 7 and 8 levels, in accordance with guidance received along with the grant.  I am pleased to welcome Mr. Theo McHugh and Ms. Ravneet Singh to our staff, teaching Grade 7 and Grade 8 respectively.

Secondly, 3 Riverside teachers will be leaving our school at the end of this school year as they have applied for and accepted transfers to other schools.  I am thankful to each of them for their many and varied contributions to our staff over their time at Riverside. We will miss you, Ms. Feaver, Ms. Taylor, and Ms. Oppenheim, and wish you the very best in the future!

Third, I can share the happy news that Ms. Kerkhoff has accepted a contract to remain at Riverside for next year.  She will be teaching Grade 6 next year.  At the same time, Mr. Brodland, also known as “Mr. B”, has accepted a role at Elboya School next year, which will allow him to make use of his French language skills in their French Immersion program.

Fourth, these changes mean some existing staff will take on new roles at our school, outlined here.  Ms. Ketcheson will be returning to the classroom from working in the Main Office in a Student Services role next year, and will be teaching Grade 5.  Our students have benefitted so much from her care and skill, but Ms. Ketcheson is excited to return to a more traditional classroom role.  Ms. Kjellbotn will be taking on the Student Services role for next year.  Mr. Norman will be moving to our Grade 7 team as a generalist teacher.  Also, Mr. Lopa will be returning the the Grade 1 team.

At the moment, there are 3 vacant teaching positions at Riverside for next year that I will be seeking to fill before the end of the month.  I will share updates as they come, though it is possible that these positions will be filled in the fall when we return to work.

2026 Used Uniform Sale

This year’s used uniform sale will take place on Friday, June 19.  Please note a small change in the start time from what was previously communicated.  The sale will begin at 12:45 and doors will not open before then.   The event will conclude at 2:15, or whenever supply runs out.

To donate clothing items, with all proceeds going to Riverside School Council, please send items to the Main Office whenever you wish.  Please note, however, that expectations that uniform tops will be worn will be in place through Thursday.

If you wish to consign clothes and have proceeds be returned to you, please contact our School Council for further information at schoolcouncil.riverside@gmail.com.  While the office staff would love to help answer questions, this is outside of our work and we will not be able to help!

Thank you for your continued support,

Steve Radder, Principal

Riverside School
