Our week has been full of indoor recess and lunch time activities. Our students and staff are doing a tremendous job of ‘keeping a lid on things’ and ensuring that this change in our routine is fun and safe rather than disruptive. I am very thankful for their efforts! Of course, the longer that a cold snap continues, the less and less resilient we all get – as opportunities to get outside and play are incredibly valuable for children.
This reminds me to share the CBE’s guidance on outdoor activities. As a general rule, should air temperature be warmer than –20C or wind chill be warmer than –25C, schools are welcome to participate in outdoor activities. At Riverside, we follow those guidelines very closely. We are hoping for a return to ‘warmer’ temperatures tomorrow. Please do what is possible to ensure your children are prepared to be outside for recess tomorrow should temperatures align with these guidelines.

Parent Society executive vacancy
Our Parent Society is looking for someone to fill the Vice President role effective immediately. We will vote to fill the role at the next meeting on Feb 20th. The Vice President is a key leadership role on the Riverside Parent Society, providing support to the President and other executive members. This individual plays an integral part in ensuring the Parent Society operates smoothly and efficiently. The Vice President steps into the role of President when they are unavailable and contributes to various activities, financial oversight, and community engagement initiatives. The vice president attends the School Council and Parent Society meetings. If you would like to put your name in or if you have any questions, please reach out to schoolcouncil.riverside@gmail.com or parentsociety.riverside@gmail.com.
February School Council and Parent Society meeting
Our School Council and Parent Society will be meeting in our Learning Commons on Febraury 20 at 7:00. This meeting will be a little different than typical as I will be sharing specific information regarding our new School Development Plan, school fees, and our budget for the 2024-25 school year. I will also be seeking your feedback during the meeting (and via a survey for all members of our community) and for the two weeks after the meeting.
Please look to our School Website, under the “Get Involved” tab, for updated agendas closer to the meeting dates.
Update from our Yearbook Committee
Riverside School will be putting in our order for yearbooks in just three weeks! If you want one for your child, they need to be pre-ordered through Jostens (the yearbook company) by February 10th. They are $35 and will be handed out in June. Please order here: https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A01118549.
