Riverside students participated in our second and final practice lockdown drill of the school year yesterday morning. A huge thanks to all students and staff for taking this practice for emergency situations seriously and appoprirately. Also, thank you to the members of the Calgary Police Service who responded to share their expertise with our community.
Whether via celebrations of learning such as today’s Grade 8 Renaissance Faire (families are welcome after school until the event ends at 7:00), upcoming Provincial Achievement Tests for Grades 6 and 9 students, we are well into “students showing off what they can do” season! And we are always so proud of all they do, whether in the classroom, in our halls, or out and about in the community. During the recent West Coast Sailing Trip, I received many unsolicited compliments about the behaviour and work of our Grade 9 students, which is actually very common for all grades. Riverside Ravens do great work each day, and make me a very proud Principal all the time.

Riverside Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) team updates
As I have shared throughout the year, a team made up of students, staff, and parents has been working throughout the year to establish a vision for social-emotional learning at Riverside to carry us into the future. This work is an example of the everyday commitment and investment to excellence we all make, no matter what our role, on behalf of our amazing students.
I am pleased to share that the first phase of this work: establishing a unified vision for this type of learning at our school – is now complete. Please keep an eye out for information on how we will share this with you, and when our next meeting to begin the second phase of this work will take place.
Thank you to all those – students, staff, and family members – who shared their thoughts and ideas!

Riverside School council and parent society receive a $500 grant each year to hold a parent seminar or info session. Previously we have run seminars on anxiety, resilience, screen time, internet safety, and so much more. We would love to hear your ideas!
